The heart of Union is the historic downtown or Central Business District.

According to the City's Land Use Ordinances, the Central Business District "is intended to provide a concentrated and unified mix of higher density commercial, office, service, retail, public and residential uses as well as a variety of support activities."

Mixed with older subdivisions, you will find a wide variety of retail and specialty shops, banks, restaurants, churches, and business services such as law and medical offices, insurance and title companies.

Some of the important community agencies surrounding the town square are the Franklin County Court House and Government Offices, Union City Hall, Union Police Department, Union Fire Department, Union Ambulance District, and the Union Area Chamber of Commerce.
