Former "First Lady of Union" Passes Away

On behalf of the citizens of the City of Union, and the staff and elected officials of the City, our heartfelt condolences at the passing of Dixie Van Leer, first lady of former Mayor Glenn Van Leer.  . Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends as they mourn her passing. She will be missed.

Dixie Van Leer of Union, MO passed away Sunday February 26, 2017.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Van Leer of Union, MO; three daughters, Pam Klenke and husband Hank of Beaufort, MO, Cindy Groenke and husband Dale of Union, MO, Marcie Van Leer of Union, MO;

Five grandchildren, Laura (Aaron) Borgmann, Megan (Nathan) Isgriggs, Jenna (Matt) Galbreath, Ross and Faith Groenke; Four great-grandchildren, Chase and Ava Borgmann, Lincoln Isgriggs, and Halle Galbreath; two sisters, Linda Metcalf and husband Jim of Union, MO, Kay Lynn Nuernberger and husband Chuck of Union, MO;
sister-in-law, Helen Olm of Toronto, KS; brother-in-law, Marvin "Beef" Van Leer and wife Virginia of Beaufort, MO.

Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 3, 2017 at 10:00 am at Zion United Church Of Christ in Union, MO; burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation for 80 year old Dixie Mae Van Leer will be Thursday from 3-8 p.m. at the Oltmann Funeral Home in Union, MO.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Zion UCC Choir or Developmental Services of Franklin County Incorporated.
