Youth Community Classes

Union, Missouri – Union Parks & Recreation Department (UPRD) is partnering with St. Louis Children’s Hospital to offer two community classes this winter. Babysitting 101 will be held on Friday, December 29 from 9am-1pm. The class is recommended for children 10 years of age and older and is a great introduction to the basics of babysitting. The class is taught by an instructor from St. Louis Children’s Hospital. A light snack, backpack and a 28-page workbook are provided. Topics that will be covered include business of babysitting, child development, safety/first aid and fun/games. Class fee is $30 per participant.

Staying Home Alone will be held on Thursday, March 29 from 6:30-8pm. This parent-child class, led by a St. Louis Children’s Hospital facilitator, will help parents and children determine the child's physical, mental, social and emotional readiness to stay home by themselves. The goal of the class is to help prepare children for the staying home alone experience. Class fee is $25 per family, that must include a minimum of one parent and one child. There is no maximum number of family members.

Both classes will be held in Room #3 in the lower level of Union City Hall, located at 500 E. Locust Street. Participants are asked to enter the door (next to table shelter with maroon roof) off the east-side parking lot.

Both city residents and non-residents are welcome. Registration is required for both classes and can be completed by contacting St. Louis Children’s Hospital at 314.454.KIDS (5437). Press 3 and provide: 1) Union City Hall and 2) Date of Desired Class (December 29 or March 29).
